Part 1 and 2 of A year with Flawborough and series 1 of Articulated Farming UK Series 1
Part 1 of A year with Flawborough
MODERN AGRICULTURE AS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE…
A Year with Flawborough is like no other agricultural video you’ve ever seen. Using the very latest drone and ground-level video technology, Farming Photography, the UK’s leading agricultural photography company, has created a new generation of farming DVD that provides unique angles onthe machinery used to tackle the seasonal challenges facing a modern arable farming business.
Covering every operation of the Hawthorne family’s 5000-acre Notts-based Flawborough Farms, part one of A Year with Flawborough charts the flurry of farm activity that begins with the arrival of spring, and covers the period through until cereal harvest begins. Topics explored include the need to make the most of short weather windows to get crops drilled, sprayed and fertilised in ideal conditions, with Flawborough continually trialling advanced new technology, such as Fendt’s 500hp 1050, the world’s largest conventional tractor, and using a controlled traffic farming system to protect the soil.
But this isn’t just a film about advanced farming – it’s also about the team behind the business, and the hard work, dedication and skill that remain such an essential part of modern machinery operation. Nor is this a video about machinery for its own sake – also explored is Flawborough’s investment in the very latest crop protection and nutrient application technology to suppress grassweeds and use inputs with the utmost precision. And that extends not just to crops grown ultimately for human consumption, but also to those such as rye and maize destined to produce renewable energy through anaerobic digestion.
Amazing camera angles, high-tech and high-capacity equipment and detailed explanation by those involved of everything that goes on make this a farming DVD that breaks new ground. Look out for part two of A Year with Flawborough, and its coverage of cereal harvest, autumn cultivations, maize harvest and more.
NEW SEASONS, NEW CHALLENGES…
If you’ve seen part one of A Year with Flawborough, you’ll know that this series of farming DVDs is like no other agricultural video yet produced. With footage from unique angles courtesy of some of the most advanced drone and ground-level video technology available, Farming Photography, the UK’s leading agricultural photography company, brings alive the machinery used to tackle the seasonal challenges facing a modern arable farming business.
Part two of this unique series returns to the Hawthorne family’s 5000-acre Notts-based Flawborough Farms, and covers one of the busiest times of the year, the summer-autumn period that spans the earliest stages of harvest through to the completion of winter drilling. Topics explored include the combinable crop harvest, with its logistical challenges and weather-related pressures, plus forage harvesting of rye and of maize at either ends of the summer for use in anaerobic digesters to generate renewable electricity. In addition to action from some of the latest high-output harvesting technology, such as Claas’s Lexion 780 combine and Krone’s BiG X 700 self-propelled forage harvester, there’s the opportunity to observe at work some of the newest equipment to make its mark on modern farming, such as the Pistenbully 300 GreenTech silage compactor.
The video also charts some other key machinery developments resulting from new thinking within this modern family farming business. They include a decision to switch from tracks to tyres at the top of the farm’s tractor fleet, with the film following the experiences of Flawborough’s owners and operators as they settle in to a new system using a four-wheel steer Claas Xerion 5000 in place of a long-serving Case IH Quadtrac 580. The new tractor and the farm’s existing Fendt machines are followed through every step of the autumn tillage and drilling process, in a section which also includes the development of the farm’s own drill filler and a focus on its controlled traffic farming system. If you’re fascinated by modern farming, or simply want to see how someone else does the job, this is a DVD you won’t want to miss.
